Application development is the name given to the process of creating a fully functioning computer software programming. The term ‘application development’ covers all steps of the production, from the early planning stages, to actually writing the code, and then testing and developing the software so it can reach its maximum potential.
Application development comes in different forms. Different methods of application development offer different advantages and disadvantages, and what words best depends on what the project is. The two main modes of application development are detailed below.
• Joint Application Development is where the program developers work alongside consumers and users when developing the application. This allows outside feedback and contributions to be brought into the project and can assist in the process of development.
• Rapid Application Development is where a release of the application is speeded up, by a basic ‘skeleton’ version of the program being released prior to the application development process being finished. This means that people are able to sample the program and its functionality before it is completely finished. This allows for useful feedback, and for any necessary glitches to be fixed before the full release.
Application development is a very important and necessary process for the creation of any new software, or any software updates that are to be released. Over the last few years, the role of the application developer has become even more crucial, as the industry of computer software development has grown multitudinously. As the industry has changed, the standards of computer software have got much higher, and therefore the standards of application development must also be much higher to meet these standards. The consumers have now got much higher expectations from the application development market, and it is important that new products and developments are meeting these extremely high expectations.
It is therefore important that the application developers who work in the industry are extremely talented. They must be able to perform way beyond their expectations and display extreme skill and talent at what they do. A developer needs to have an impeccable knowledge of the industry and what is required of him. He must be able to further improve his skills as the industry changes so very quickly. A developer needs to be able to work with different computer platforms as well as having the ability to integrate an application alongside a multitude of platforms and components.
